How to Convert a Non-Inventory Product to Inventory

Convert a non-inventory product to inventory, check the right fields before saving, see what doesn't carry over, and add stock to the new inventory product.

Convert a non-inventory product to inventory when you want to keep it in stock instead of special-ordering it. Converting creates a new inventory product from the non-inventory one, so you don't have to set the product up again from scratch.

Converting is one-way. You can't convert an inventory product back to non-inventory. The original product stays on your non-inventory list and keeps receiving price updates from your B2B vendor connection. The new inventory product doesn't receive B2B price updates.

Convert a Non-Inventory Product to Inventory

To convert a non-inventory product to inventory, start from your non-inventory product list and use the Convert to Inventory option on the product.

  1. Go to your Non-Inventory Products list and find the product you want to convert.

  2. Click the Gear icon on the product.

  3. Select Convert to Inventory. Before you save, check that these fields are correct:

    • UOM (unit of measure) and Unit

    • Coverage (must be greater than 0)

    • Cost, Margin, and Selling Price

  4. Click Save.

  5. Click Yes to confirm.

  6. Floorzap opens the stock page for the new inventory product.

What Doesn't Carry Over When You Convert to Inventory

When you convert a non-inventory product to inventory, the new inventory product copies almost everything from the original. These details don't carry over, so add them to the inventory product if you use them:

  • Product images

  • Compare prices

  • Units per pallet

  • Pieces per UOM

  • Weight per UOM

If you sync with QuickBooks, Floorzap creates a new QuickBooks item for the inventory product.

Add Stock to Your New Inventory Product

A product you just converted to inventory starts with 0 on hand. How you add stock depends on whether you already have the product:
