How to Configure Sales Tax and Use Tax Settings in Floorzap
This guide walks you through setting up sales tax and use tax correctly in Floorzap.
Step 1: Navigate to Tax Settings
Go to:
Settings → System Settings → Tax Default Options
This is where you control both sales tax and use tax behavior.
Configuring Sales Tax
Sales tax controls what your customer is charged.
Enable Sales Tax
Turn this on to apply sales tax across your account.
If disabled, no sales tax will be charged on invoices.
Choose Service Types for Sales Tax
You can decide which service types apply sales tax (for example, Cash & Carry).
Each service type can be configured independently.
Sales Tax Checkbox on Line Items
Line items include a sales tax checkbox.
Important: This checkbox only works if the invoice’s service type is enabled for sales tax in Tax Default Options.
If the service type is not configured for sales tax, the checkbox will have no effect.
Configuring Use Tax
Use tax is a store cost, not a customer charge.
Enable Use Tax
Turn this on to activate use tax.
You’ll then see two options:
-
Material & Labor
-
Material Only
Material & Labor
Applies use tax to installation jobs.
You can select which service types are subject to use tax.
Material Only
Applies to store pickup transactions (no installation).
Important: Material Only always uses the tax rate set in Location Settings.
Calculate Use Tax by Job Site/Customer Location (Recommended for Most Stores)
When enabled:
-
Use tax rate is calculated based on the job address.
-
The rate will match the sales tax rate for that address.
When disabled:
-
Use tax uses the static rate set in Location Settings.
Most stores should enable this setting unless their municipality requires otherwise.
Vendor-Level Material Tax
To configure material tax:
-
Open a Vendor record.
-
Enable Material Tax.
-
Set the applicable tax rate.
This tax applies to Purchase Orders from that vendor.
